Monday 26th June

Italy 1 - Australia 0

This was a closely  fought game where niether side could break the deadlock, with Ausralia having the better chance, but a late penalty from Francesco Totti gave Italy the 1 - 0 win and a place in the quarter finals, facing either Switzerland or the Ukraine in the last eight.

Switzerland 0 - Ukraine 0  (Ukraine win 3 - 0 on pen.)

The first half was uneventful with both sides failing to score. The two clear cut chances were a fizzing freekick from Switzerlands young striker Alexander Frei and Chelsea's £30m signing Andriy Shevchenko's diving header which hit the crossbar. The second half was more of the smae as the game went to penalties with Ukraine winning 3 - 0.

Tuesday 27th June

Brazil 3 - Ghana 0

Brazil continue still contiue their World Cup journey at walking pace with a confident 3 - 0 win over Ghana. Goals from Ze Roberto, Cafu and Ronaldo who became the tournament's all-time leading scorer with 15 goals.

France 3 - Spain 1

France march on to World Cup glory with an emphatic win against tiltle contenders Spain with goals coming from Franck Ribery, Patrick Viera and Zinedine Zidane. Spain scored with a penalty in the first half from Valencia striker David Villa. France will now face Brazil in the last eight and the winners will take on either Portugal or England in the semi finals.
